Christmas 2008 Newsletter

January 5th, 2008

Dear Friends and Family,

Wow, where to begin? 2007 has been an amazing year!

You may remember that last year our lives were turned upside down after we read the book Heaven Is So Real by Choo Thomas [check out Nings Xmas News 2006]. Perhaps at that time you’d thought we’d just gone a bit cuckoo and would settle down and become more ‘normal’ in 2007. Not so! In fact, God took us further and deeper into Himself this year! We’re beginning to understand that life will never be the same, and that God “is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). We’ll do our best to explain in the rest of this newsletter.

Jared is now in Grade 5 and he’s getting tall! He hasn’t surpassed his Mom yet, but he is expected to do so in the near future. He was identified by his school as being intellectually gifted and has already begun an enhanced learning program with four of his schoolmates. He developed a strong interest in Spongebob this year and is able to sing most Spongebob songs and quote entire episodes, much to the enjoyment of his peers (and amusement of his parents). He is a budding prophet who is learning to hear God speak to him and has already given his Mom and Dad some important and life-changing messages from God.

Henry received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit this year, including the gift of speaking in tongues (in languages he never learned). He has become more loving and patient, and experiences urges to get up and dance when he hears worship music. (He has not yet given in to these urges!) His Men’s Group has grown to 5 men now, and they are currently learning about the Holy Spirit. Other topics of interest include spiritual warfare and inner healing. Henry really enjoys getting together with these men who all have a deep desire to know God better and live lives that are pleasing to Him.

Henry has a new hobby this year: He is building a realistic 767 cockpit to use with Microsoft Flight Simulator on his computer. So far he has 5 monitors hooked up to the one computer: two 22″ widescreens and three 17″ square, all LCD flatscreen monitors, and is on his second attempt (he took apart his first attempt because it wasn’t ‘authentic’ enough). He gets plenty of encouragement and inspiration from his Cockpit Builders forum. Apparently he is not the only one with this obsession!? There are guys all over the world who are building cockpits! Most are building 737 cockpits because there are plenty of different pieces of 737 controllers available for sale on the internet. Henry is one of the few intrepid pioneers who is building a 767 cockpit from scratch.

For Enid, this year has been a time of deep inner healing, training and release. Last year she thought she had received a lot of inner healing, but this year she experienced an exponential increase in intense inner healing for deep-rooted issues! (You can read more about inner healing in Enid’s blog. It’s amazing and it really works — permanently!) She started out 2007 with intercession (prayer for others) training once a week via conference call (the Gadite Track, run by Sara Maynard of Cityscape Prayer in Vancouver), and ended the year with a weekend healing ministry training workshop (run by Heather Curnew of Healing Rooms of Greater Hamilton and Myrrh Ministries). She was released into the ministries of intercession one day a week (with GOHOP — the Greater Ontario House of Prayer), worship two mornings a week (at the Dwelling) and healing (more on this in 2008!) One of Enid’s new activities is worship dancing with beautiful worship flags. She buys them from this eBay seller for a great price!

As you can see, we had a little trouble getting a decent family Christmas picture to show you! So we thought, for the sake of humour, we’d include all of them… :D

Henry’s Mom continues to live with us. She is a big help, as she does a lot of the cooking especially on weekdays, and goes grocery shopping with Henry at least twice a week. She is a great help in our household, watching Jared for us, helping out in the kitchen and with laundry. But it’s not all work! Mom likes to take a walk through the neighbourhood most days. In May, Mom went on a cruise with friends to the Caribbean, and in October she spent 4 weeks in Timmins with Henry’s sister Betty and her family. Despite the language barrier, Mom and Enid have been reading the Bible together in Chinese and English and enjoying each other’s company.

Oh yeah! Enid published her very own book of personal stories in January this year. It’s called He Touched Me: True Personal Stories of Divine Intervention, just a few (16) of the stories of how God has intervened in her life. You can actually buy it online here (or download it for free)!

Well, those are just a few of the highlights of our year. So much more happened, and we learned that God is in the business of making life better and more exciting and wonderful every year. May He bless you richly in this coming year of new beginnings! Merry Christmas!

In His Love,

Henry, Enid & Jared.

James Van Praagh: Doorway to torment

December 15th, 2007

It is with reluctance that I write a quick warning against James Van Praagh and his attractively packaged book of deception Looking Beyond: A Teen’s Guide to the Spiritual World.

Van Praagh openly admits to being a medium and a spiritualist who contacts the dead. Here are some clear warnings from the Bible regarding mediums and spiritists:

Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God. (Leviticus 19:31)

I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people. (Leviticus 20:6)

A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads. (Leviticus 20:27)

When you enter the land the LORD your God is giving you, do not learn to imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you. You must be blameless before the LORD your God. (Deuteronomy 18:9-13)

Clearly, God is against mediums and spiritists! We need to guard ourselves against such people, just as we wash our hands before eating to guard ourselves against bacteria and viruses. James Van Praagh is a medium, one who claims to contact the spirits of the dead, and as such, acts as an open door to “infection” with evil spirits. Evil spirits are similar to pathogenic bacteria and viruses: they are all around, but cannot harm you if you do the right thing. In the case of bacteria and viruses, the right thing to do is observe hygiene rules. In the case of evil spirits, the right thing to do is to obey God’s moral laws. Avoiding mediums and spiritists, like avoiding something dirty and infested with pathogenic bacteria, is one of the things we need to do to keep clean and free from evil spirit infections.

One of the things Van Praagh teaches in his book is that you can have “spirit guides” come in and guide you in living your life. Just to let you know, in case it isn’t obvious these “spirit guides” are actually evil spirits that will disguise themselves as being good at first, but as they worm their way deeper and deeper into your heart and mind and gain control of you, the gloves will be off and you will be in for some major torment! If you find yourself in this situation, cry out to Jesus to come and rescue you. Turn completely away from this evil and Jesus will come and set you free. However, if Jesus sets you free and you then choose to continue doing your own thing and ignoring Jesus, you will find yourself much worse off when the evil spirit returns with seven more even worse than itself. You can either serve Jesus or you can serve the devil. There isn’t really any middle ground, especially not once you invite the devil in.

Recommended reading: The Bondage Breaker by Neil Anderson clearly explains how to escape the torment of the devil and be set completely free through Jesus.

Inner Healing: Going Deeper

June 29th, 2007

If you want to go deeper into inner healing and understand it better, I recommend the Theophostic Basic Seminar given by Dr. Ed Smith. What? You want even deeper? Check out the Theophostic Advanced Seminar.

Information on Theophostic and the Basic and Advanced Seminars is available at http://www.theophostic.com. This material is well worth checking out.

Inner Healing in the Present

May 30th, 2007

Here’s something amazing: I have now received so much inner healing that when I go to God for inner healing, I am no longer brought back to a memory that happened years ago. Instead, I am brought back to something that happened recently, in the last few months. At first I was confused by this, thinking that I was having difficulty finding the right memory. But now I am realizing that what has happened is that my healing has been brought up to the present!

I’ve learned that when Jesus brings me back to a recent memory now, I can simply invite Him into it to shine His Light and His Truth. He still does it, and I still receive healing, but it’s present tense now!

This is something to consider when you get no memory or a very recent event: Go ahead and invite Jesus in anyways, and see what He does. There is no need to be discouraged and give up. Continue forward and give Jesus a chance to do whatever He wants to do. It is always good.

Inner Healing: The Essence

May 2nd, 2007

The essence of inner healing seems to be this:

1. Ask Jesus to reveal whatever memory He wants to work with.

2. Invite Jesus to come into the memory and shine His Light and His Truth.

I’ve done probably more than 100 inner healings for myself, plus numerous inner healings with others, with varying degrees of success. The greatest difficulty seems to be in asking people to hear from Jesus what the lies and truth are. The easiest thing is get the memory and invite Jesus into it.

I’ve also investigated and experienced other very effective forms of inner healing, including Theophostic (Ed Smith) and The Divine Plumbline (YWAM). In these, too, the essence of the healing was inviting Jesus into the memory of His choosing.

Here is a new prayer script for inner healing, the shortest yet. Feel free to try it; also feel free to stick with the longer scripts if you find them more effective. I recommend a greater emphasis on inviting Jesus in, and if the person seems to be experiencing Jesus in a special way, pray for them to bless whatever He is doing in them at that moment. Don’t be in any rush to move on, but give them plenty of time to fully receive and experience His Presence, and to allow Jesus to do whatever He wants to do with them.

Inner Healing: Interruptions

March 27th, 2007

In some cases of inner healing prayer, interruptions are inevitable, simply due to time constraints and the needs of the client.

Some clients will need more time to talk about the problems they are facing. At the same time, you and/or the client are likely to have some form of time constraint, whether it is a child who needs to be picked up after school or simply another scheduled appointment. Some clients may require an indepth explanation or more time or help to listen for what Jesus is saying. When I do the inner healing on my own in the evening, I’m bound to be interrupted by either my husband calling me to dinner or my son asking for some milk or a snack.

The good news is that inner healing can easily continue to progress following interruptions. I have never yet seen an inner healing fail because of interruption. If the interruption is fairly quick, I simply pick up where I left off. In one case an interruption lasted several days. In that case, especially if you are still working on getting the lies or the truth, you will probably want to repeat at least the preparation prayer before resuming. If all that is left to do is the prayers to break the lies and onward, then the client may possibly be able to complete them on their own; however, if there is a preference that I do the prayers, I am more than willing to do them with the client.

The bottom line is that the inner healing process is quite fluid enough to flow around interruptions and still be highly effective. Without a doubt, I attribute this fluidity and effectiveness to Jesus and His Power overseeing the process. His Heart to heal is greater even than our desire to receive healing.
